Sara Lepp of Fargo, volunteer center director for FirstLink, was named one of six North Dakota League of Cities “Hometown Heroes” at its annual conference this weekend in Minot.
Lepp directed the “tremendous need for volunteers” during the spring’s flood, when the center coordinated more than 100,000 volunteers and fielded 55,000 calls during a three-week period.
“Sara’s dedication and tireless efforts in meeting needs was of critical importance in saving lives and protecting the property of those who live in Fargo and Cass County,” Dave Rogness, Cass County emergency manager, and Leon Schlafmann, Fargo emergency manager, said in their nomination letter.
“I am extremely honored and humbled,” Lepp said after receiving the award. “The volunteers during the flood were a big part of what saved our city.”
